There are a few familiar faces including the finalists from last year in Na'Vi (Natus Vincere) and EHOME along with teams that have recently been climbing the charts in the Dota2 rankings and getting the deserved invitations such as mTw (Mortal Team Work) and TongFu whom went through a grueling competition to get the last wild card slot from their respective west and east regions, going against several other top ranked teams to have the privilege to compete in The International 2012.
So far in the past fiscal year since The International 2011, Na'Vi has placed either 1st or 2nd place in all the major tournaments they've participated in, further ranking up and keeping their elite status as the world's best from last year. EHOME, the runner ups from last year has not participated in as many events but when they did have gotten respectable results.
Although the two finalists from last year are favorites again, rankings and past results aren't always indications of what's to come. There are two dark horses from both the west and east that have been making a name for themselves recently.
From the west, we have Mortal Team Work. They've been on an astonishing run lately and have won a couple major tournaments since getting the west wild card spot. They shocked the Dota2 scene during the Dreamhack Summer 2012 Corsair Vengeance Cup by not only making it to the finals while taking out other big name teams such as Evil Geniuses, Counter Logic Gaming, Mousesports on the way there and by taking out the powerhouse favorites in Na'Vi in the finals after being down a game and winning two straight to take out the defending champs of The International 2011 for 1st place.

In the east, LGD Gaming has been impressive in recent events as they took out their rivals in EHOME in the Gigabyte Dota Masters. They also beat big targets in teams such as Orange Esports, Invictus Gaming, World Elite and Team Zenith in the finals to get the 1st place. Most of the Chinese teams have been impressive and will be heavy favorites for The International 2012 but the Europeans may have other plans for the event.

Here are some quotes from Mousesports' Dominik "Black^" Reitmeier during a recent interview in DotaTalk:
"mTw is the best team in Europe simply because they're very dedicated and tried very hard. Concerning us, we need more time to play together,"
"I've always said and will still say, top 3 at The International will consist of Chinese teams. Their mindset and mentality is just far superior when you compare it to the European ones, and also they spend much more time playing the game."
Will the Chinese will dominate as Black^ predicts? Only time will tell but keep an eye out for the next couple months leading up to the major event to get a better idea for yourself! Stay tuned as we'll be covering them and looking forward The International 2012 just as much as you guys!
