Summoning Lightning and Zombies in the battlefield

The Dota 2 staff continues to present gifts to players, as this week is another week where players will be gaining two new heroes to bring on the battlefield.

Players can expect to see a lightning-wielding orc riding what can only be described as a Tauntaun around, and don’t be surprised when the backpack of Tesla coils he carries suddenly teleports you away from him. And maybe if this orc wields his lightning just right, players could have access to a freshly reanimated zombie to lumber around with.

Thrall the Disruptor

In similar fashion to how heroes already combine science and magic to great effect, it is sort of acceptable to see Thrall lugging around an energy pack made of Telsa coils to fuel his attacks. How he drops a perfect circle of them to trap his foes does make me wonder he keeps them all, but some questions are better left unasked. Players will love being able to trap enemies in the ring of coils though, as Thrall’s damaging energy aoe (his ult) can be placed directly on top of the circle of coils.

Thrall also brings a very unique, very fun technique to the game and that is the ability to force an enemy to teleport to wherever they were a few seconds ago. Whether using it to escape ganks by flinging the attacker back to the bush, or using it to force an escaping enemy back into range, this ability is sure to be fun to use.

Dirge the Undying

Who doesn’t love zombies now? Really, ask yourself, does the addition of a zombie make the game better? Damn straight it does. Dirge lumbers around the battlefield like a one-zombie apocalypse that can leech from his enemies, before turning into his ultimate form to smash them to oblivion (no, not the Elder Scrolls one). As a flesh golem (his ult) he has a passive plague aura that slows enemies, and he will amplify the damage that enemies into his aura take from any source by up to 30%. (depending on distance)

And, as if any apocalypse would be complete without a hoard of attackers, Dirge Is polite enough to bring some friends to play. Meaning, he can summon zombies. These zombies will slow enemies near them as well, providing Dirge with soft cc (the slows) in any form.

Whether you want to be using lightning to explode your enemies or you want to a lumbering zombie chasing forever-slowed prey, these two new additions to the Dota hero line-up seem super sweet.
