JeeDOTA2 Championship Season IV: Group Stage Edition

JeeSports' very own online Dota 2 tournament, JeeDota2 Championship Season IV, is close to reaching its peak as the group stage has recently come to an end after two weeks of group stage scrimmages to determine which top two teams from each group will advance to the Playoffs. Prior to the group stages, over 50 teams participated in weekly 5v5 JeeDota2 cups for close to two months and gained ranking points to place top 16 to find themselves in the main event. Now with only 8 teams remaining from the bunch, we'll soon be seeing a new JeeDota2 champion once the Playoffs start on August 26th, 2012! Be sure not to miss out!

Let's take a look at how things ended in each respective group:

Just to clarify a few things, we've had a few changes in names as ActioN is now Vince Te Ipsum and Trademark to Cheesus. The new kids on the block in Vince Te Ipsum definitely impressed as they finished the group with a 3-0 record and didn't drop a single game against any of their opponents to finish the group stage with a perfect sweep. They went 13/18 in the qualifiers but when it mattered more, they definitely stepped up their game to show they can keep up with the top. The returning group stage finalists in Draka had a much better run this time around, taking the 2nd place slot. After suffering a loss to Vince Te Ipsum for the first game of the group, they beat Cheesus in a close 2-1 game and then Antrox Multigaming for a decisive last game by a 2-0 score. Draka can probably sympathize with Cheesus as they were in the same shoes during the JeeDota2 Championship Season III as they finished the group with a 1-2 record after starting the stage with a strong win against Antrox followed by a close loss against draka and a heavy loss against the group winners, Vince Te Ipsum. The competitive Dota 2 scene is about being the best of the best and finding a way to get up there as a team. We will most likely be seeing more of the promising team in Cheesus and others if they keep up their game. Unfortunately for Antrox Multigaming, they did not win a single game in the group stage and will have to rethink their strategies or brush up on their skill as a team if they want to take their game to the next level.

As previously stated in the JeeDota2 Championship Season IV previews, Group 2 was likeliest to be the most stacked in terms of skill and established teams with some of them having participated in some of the more prestige Dota 2 tournaments out there such as the DreamHack Dota2 Vengeance Cup and GosuLeague. Although most have expected some closely fought games between these teams, the results were very straight forward as all of them ended with a 2-0 score. Mansing dominated the group by going a perfect 3-0 and has played close to perfect even against the likes of teams that have been out there such as iNfernity Gaming and DN-Gaming as they claimed the top spot of the group. The 2nd place spot went to iNfernity Gaming after they lost to mansing in the first game and beat DN-Gaming in a decisive round 2 game followed up by a win against Aim 2 Kill to finish the group. DN-Gaming have got to be a little disappointed in themselves as they had expectations coming into this tournament with more experience in the dota 2 competitive scene than some of the other teams we have, as they ultimately finished 3rd place after not being able to get any wins against mansing and iNfernity Gaming while getting their only win against the Aim 2 Kill team that ended up going 0-3.

Group 3 definitely ended up being the closest matched in the end, as the top 3 teams ended with an identical 2-1 score with EVODOTA2 grabbing 1st place to advance to the Playoff stage. Aesir eSports and sqL will be playing an additional match this thursday at 19 CET to decide who gets to have the 2nd place slot. If we could, we'd put all three of them in the playoffs as they all played phenomenally. JeeDota2 Championship Season III's 3rd placed EVODOTA2 started with a loss against sqL but followed up with solid 2-0 wins against ScaryFacezzz and Aesir eSports. Aesir eSports played a lot better than expected after going 5/10 in the qualifiers with mixed results, they definitely proved themselves in this group after beating ScaryFacezzz and sqL. A little dissapointment for sqL as they came in the group with high expectations, having participated in big events such as Gigabyte Dota Masters, JoinDOTA Masters IX and even our very own JeeDota2 Championship Season II where they made it to the quarter-finals. They were on pace to go for a perfect sweep as they won their first two games against EVODOTA2 and ScaryFacezzz by 2-0 scores but had an unfortunate slip against Aesir eSports in the 3rd and last match, and will now face them again for a tie breaker match. There's not much to be said about ScaryFacezzz's performance this time around but we hope to see them around again next time!

This group had to have been one of the most exciting ones featuring the JeeDota2 Championship Season III's champions in HelloMoto and the rising We haz Asian team. We haz Asian has been on quite the run recently, after being the biggest surprise recently when they brilliantly won the SAMSUNG European Encounter, beating out some of the biggest talents out there such as Storm Games Clan, Team Infused and Copenhagen Wolves in the finals in front of their home crowd in Germany! Quite a feat for one of our JeeDota participating teams. They've surprised many before that by having a good run in The Defense 2 and even more so by beating mTw (Mortal Team Work) in the Absolute Legends Dota 2 Invitational. As expected, We haz Asian played exceptionally well in this group stage without dropping a single game and going for the 3-0 perfect sweep. HelloMoto kept up their end of the bargain as they went 2-1 to get 2nd place and only losing to WhA in the last game. They will definitely be a good contender in the Playoff stage. Unfortunate for ULTRA, they had to face WhA and HelloMoto for their first two games where they always found themselves a step or two behind. They beat TeamLicious for the third and last game to finish 3rd place. TeamLicious on the other hand were in a tough group and didn't have much going their way, we hope to see them return for another run next time around!

That about covers it for the group stages, we're all looking forward to the Playoff stage that will be starting on the 26th of August! Season V will be starting at the conclusion of it as well . Sit tight as this championship is bound to be an awesome one!
